Death Stranding 3 might be in the concept phase. Although Hideo Kojima already has an initial outline of the story, he doesn’t want to develop it himself.

Is Death Stranding 3 in Development?

Hideo Kojima just turned 62 and has plenty of projects on his mind, but retirement isn’t one of them. The creator of Metal Gear Solid and P.T. is now focused on OD and Physint, and nothing else.

Or maybe that’s only half true. Kojima recently admitted that he has already drafted a concept for a possible third Death Stranding game.

The catch? It might not even be developed by Kojima Productions. Kojima himself suggested he would rather see someone else direct it.

Kojima’s Clear Response

In an interview with PlayStation Arabia, Kojima was asked about a potential sequel to Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and whether Sam Porter Bridges could complete a trilogy.

His answer was direct: he has no plans to work on Death Stranding 3 right now, since the ending of the second game already marked a turning point for the saga.

However, he did reveal that he has already written the concept for a possible DS3 and that someone else could create it in his place.

“I’m not planning to do that (DS3) at this moment,”

“The ending of Death Stranding 2 was the ending of 1 and 2 for me. But I have already written the concept for DS3, it’s in the data. I hope someone else will make it for me.”

Who Could Take Over Death Stranding 3?

It will be interesting to see which member of Kojima Productions might step up to lead the development of a third entry in the franchise.

Fans on Reddit were quick to point out that Kojima had once said something similar during his time at Konami, claiming each Metal Gear Solid would be his “last.”

For now, the focus remains on OD and Physint, two games led directly by Kojima, while Death Stranding 3 might eventually be developed under his studio, but by another director.
